Every permit connects drawings to a jobsite.

More than filing an application. AV+ Permitting coordinates the whole permitting lifecycle: agency communication, submittals, ongoing tracking, post-issuance documentation and closeout, for one permit or a full portfolio across jurisdictions.

How does it work?

Need a permitting partner who knows the jobsite?

Four stages, tracked from the first jurisdictional question to final closeout. Each one is coordinated and monitored, so the next step is always clear to the contractor, the owner and the design team.

  1. Research

Identify jurisdiction, permit pathway, agency requirements, and project-specific documentation.

  2. Prepare & Apply

Gather and coordinate forms, plans, contractor credentials, supporting records, and submissions.

  3. Track & Coordinate

Monitor reviews, communicate comments, coordinate corrections, and manage resubmittals.

  4. Deliver & Close

Provide issued permit materials, facilitate inspection coordination, and support permit closeout.

Before plans are submitted, a project needs a clear answer to where it will be reviewed, which permits apply and which zoning or development approvals stand in the way. This early research shapes the schedule, the submittal package and the conversations with the design team.

  • Permit feasibility and jurisdiction researchConfirming which authority reviews the project and which permit types and approvals apply to the scope.
  • Zoning verificationChecking the property's zoning designation and the uses and standards that come with it.
  • Code and land-use requirement coordinationGathering the applicable requirements so the design team and owner are working from the same list.
  • Development review coordinationCoordinating applications for development review, conditional or special use, variances and rezoning where a project requires them.
  • Site/civil and public works requirementsIdentifying site, civil and public works requirements that can affect the permit pathway.

About AV+ Permitting

Questions, answered

Timelines, fees, documents and what happens when the building department asks for corrections.

All questions
How does the permitting process work?

Requirements depend on the project and reviewing authority. Most projects involve identifying the correct jurisdiction and permit pathway, collecting the required plans and forms, submitting the application, responding to agency reviews, satisfying issuance conditions and fees, then completing applicable inspection and closeout requirements. AV+ coordinates and monitors these steps.

How long does it typically take to obtain a permit?

Timelines vary with the scope, complexity, jurisdiction, review workload, and completeness of submissions. Some permits move relatively quickly; others require several review cycles or additional agency approvals. AV+ focuses on early requirement research, accurate coordination, and consistent follow-through, without promising a guaranteed approval date.

What happens if the building department requests corrections?

Review comments are tracked and forwarded to the appropriate project contacts. Responses and revisions can be coordinated with the contractor, owner, architect, engineer, or other responsible professional. AV+ then supports submission of corrected documents and tracks the next review cycle.
